In a significant move to enhance early childhood education, the School District of Baraboo Board of Education has approved the introduction of a full-day 4-Year-Old Kindergarten (4K) program option beginning in the fall of 2024. The Baraboo School District welcomes families to explore the exciting 4K program, emphasizing the holistic development of the child, including crucial social and emotional capabilities, literacy, and math skills. The full-day program option is designed to provide an enriched educational experience and create opportunities for children to thrive in a supportive environment at no cost to families.

Registration events for the new program option are scheduled to take place on Wednesday, February 21st (2-4:30 PM), Thursday, March 14th (4-6 PM), and Tuesday, April 16th (4-6 PM) at West Kindergarten Center. These events offer engaging carnival-style activities, chances to connect with 4K teachers, and opportunities for discussions with a representative from Lamers bus company to address transportation needs.

The half-day 4K programming option will continue alongside the new full-day option, offering a three-hour session four days a week. The half-day program focuses on time with the classroom teacher, peer interactions, social skill building, and academic skills. However, it will not include access to resources like breakfast and lunch, or specialized teachers in areas such as Gym, Music, Art, Library Media Center (LMC), Psychologist, and Counselor.

For those opting for the full-day program, the benefits include extended time with the classroom teacher, access to more school resources, breakfast and lunch provided, and increased time with other teachers specializing in areas like Gym, Music, Art, LMC, Psychologist, Counselor, etc. In the comprehensive full-day 4K program, children will engage in a curriculum that is centered around play-based activities, fostering not only their academic development but also emphasizing the importance of daily rest time to support their overall well-being. This approach is carefully designed to address the specific needs of 4-year-olds, recognizing the significance of a balanced and supportive educational environment.

The Baraboo School District encourages parents to explore the program further through our website and registration events to enroll for the 2024-25 school year, promising a journey of educational excellence for their children!
