On December 4th, Baraboo High School (BHS) held a special dedication ceremony to unveil a striking 8’ by 8’ outdoor lighted Thunderbird, a gift from the Class of 1973. The Thunderbird, a symbol of the school’s enduring pride and spirit, stands prominently on the campus, illuminated to inspire generations of students to come.

The Class of 1973 began this journey during their 50th reunion in September 2023. As they reflected on their time at BHS, they sought a meaningful way to honor their legacy and give back to the school community. With generous donations and thoughtful discussions with BHS Principal Steve Considine, the class committee decided to fund and install the lighted Thunderbird. Installation was completed in February 2024, with lighting enhancements finalized later in the year.

In a statement, the Class of 1973 expressed gratitude to those who made the project possible:

"As the BHS Class of 1973 celebrated their 50th reunion in September of 2023, generous donations were received to honor their legacy. After several discussions with Principal Steve Considine, the committee committed to an 8’ by 8’ outdoor lighted Thunderbird. The Thunderbird was installed in February 2024 with lighting completed a few months later.

The Class of 1973 wishes to thank both Principal Considine and Building and Grounds Director Dan O’Brien for their support and help in coordinating this project. Also, special thanks to Director of Communications, Hailey Wagner, for facilitating the dedication ceremony.

And of course, none of this would have been possible without the amazing generosity of the Class of 1973.”

Principal Considine, who attended the ceremony, remarked on the significance of the Thunderbird. β€œThis incredible addition to our campus will serve as a constant reminder of the strength and generosity of the Class of 1973. It symbolizes the pride and passion of all who walk through the halls of BHS.”

The dedication ceremony brought together alumni, current students, and faculty, celebrating the unwavering connection between past and present Thunderbirds. The illuminated Thunderbird now stands as a beacon of school spirit and a tribute to the legacy of the Class of 1973.
